Nicaragua: Quinta Amparo, House of Refuge

We spent two special days working with Quinta Amparo, which means House of Refuge. We have visited these beautiful children a few times over the last few years and played music with them before – they have one of our CD’s and as we found out they love our Spanish song “No Tengas Miedo”. They requested over and over to play this song, which was so touching…this song says “Do not be afraid. Do not fear. I am with you”. These young kids are awesome and have walked through some painful and scary things. It was a beautiful moment to watch them sing along to this song as we played.

In addition to playing lots of songs together, the kids also got to sing a spanish chorus of one of our new songs and we recorded it for our new album! One of the favorite art projects with the kids was where child painted and colored a leaf. Then we made a big tree drawing, and all the kids put their leaves on it to see how they are connected and grow together. The last night of our workshops was the highlight. We announced that we would do a big event all together that evening – not us singing, but them! The kids made tickets and asked them to chose their favorite song, and everyone would sing their hearts out. It was awesome! It was the kids idea to put on their favorite costumes and they had such a blast singing for everyone!
